[The response only comes much later in the day, close to lockdown, after Beckett has had a little time to process what happened the night before. Seeing Brian alive is definitely a welcome relief after that, and he is glad to have something to tell him.]
It's good that you've returned. I did find something.
@Rdua and I spent the night at the funeral home. She was in the morgue, I was in the office. We left the tablets on to talk to each other. This is what I managed to record. Be careful - don't play the last few seconds, or the sound will blow your tablet out.
[Here he attaches the video of what they got from midnight on: First the hum that rises in pitch, then the sudden popping out of the corpse slabs and the way their backs illuminate, then the rising light until the video is gone.]
The tablet failed after that, but I heard more movement. At some point she started to scream until her throat was gone. I heard what I think was her skull cracking, then silence. There was light and movement in the morgue until an hour or so before dawn. @CaptSteveRogers got me out in the morning. We couldn't find any trace of her or any evidence of anything that happened.
[A dry report. He has no interest in starting to examine any particular feelings he might have about the incident.]
[Interesting is one way to put it. Beckett can only wish his sarcasm generator was up to the task of making a wry comment to that effect, rather than retreating before the greater urge to keep things dry and neutral.]
She has, yes, but not in the morgue itself. That is why we agreed to have her be the one to stay there this time. The morgue is where everything of interest happens.
This was all. I think the tablet was disabled by the sound. It no longer plays audio and video - I'll probably have to destroy it.
[He'd say that yes, he hopes Rydia would return, but what's the use?]
Maybe, if she remembers. Whatever it is that killed her was traumatic. And there is also the possibility of her memory being tampered with in other ways, if she indeed saw something she wasn't meant to.
[Optimism fails, so pessimism will do.]
I will probably find a new one as I have before. Although I think first I'll see if I can do something with the broken tablet as a bait.
[Of course he does. Don't you know they're always horrible deadly plans, Brian?]
That is my purpose, yes. I don't know how yet. Considering what happened last time
[He leaves it there, because what happened last time suggests that whatever force is behind the spiders - behind all of Norfinbury? - would go to exceptional lengths not to be caught. Lengths he isn't sure any of them has the means to counteract.
*As long as he's not the one in danger...unless the reward is great enough.*

I'd like to see, but my tablet has lost some functions. It may have to wait until I find a new one, unless you wish to meet in person. We can wait until you no longer feel compelled to talk, too, if you prefer.
[He desperately wants to know, to have any answers he might... but he also wants to keep in Brian's good graces.]

Instead, a different question:]
Did you come back with any insights?

[And a sharp stop there, because Beckett does not build up empty hopes. He didn't for Brian, and he doesn't now.]
Do you mean an actual, human finger? Preserved?
