[He catches the beginning of that name - recognises it - but that isn't his concern right now. His concern is, in fact, zeroing in with increasingly urgent precision. The more Sora talks, the more focused his interest, and it's starting to frighten him.]
I need to know more, if you want to help. If you're willing to deal in information. You say you've met another version of Tifa - how different? Have you met other versions of you?
Deal in information? Just stuff about me or do you mean information in general?
[Because he doesn't mind talking about himself but he really doesn't want to give up stuff on other people.]
Um..she wasn't extremely different. She was pretty scary--the one I knew. She was really strong and was looking for Cl-loud. She was pretty new to Radiant Garden.
[A pause.]
Not...exactly? I mean, I have a Nobody but I don't know if that really counts.
Only about things that pertain to this concept of "worlds". I'm not interested in personal matters, though if they're relevant... I'll trade. Whatever the terms.
[It's the best he can offer. His eagerness comes through in his voice - eagerness and a subtle anxiety.]
Can you explain what a "Nobody" is? And is Tifa aware that you've met her parallel, is this something I can talk to her about?
[Sora's not object to sharing information about his world; it wouldn't be the first time he's done it.]
Nobodies are the result of someone with a very strong will losing their heart to darkness. Their heart becomes something called a Heartless--and I know that doesn't make sense but it's what they're called--and the body and mind become a Nobody.
[Hopefully that isn't too confusing..]
She is. We didn't talk a whole lot about it but she knows about it.
Thank you. [And now that anxiety is fully audible in the breathed-out words. It takes Beckett a moment to gather himself again after.]
So your having a Nobody, despite you still being here talking to me, means that somewhere out there was a you who lost his heart - am I correct? But you did not meet that other, only the Nobody that became of him. And this is something that can happen in any world, in your experience? I've met a vast array of supernatural strangeness in my nights, but never anything of this sort.
Well it's..me meeting my Nobody shouldn't have been possible, especially not back home. But we existed at the same time because my heart was protecting someone else's heart as well. Someone named Ventus. Roxas kind of looks more like him than he does me, if I'm going to be honest.
[Sorry Beckett. This isn't going to get any easier to understand.]
So Roxas was one part me and one part Ventus when I got turned into a Heartless. And then when I was returned to normal, Roxas was able to linger behind because he wasn't just me...if that makes sense.
It does, yes. The merging of essences naturally generates a third, independent essence. I've seen similar things. [True for so many things, that. He has a frame of reference, a way to understand almost any strangeness that the other worlds have thrown Y
You're one of those types for whom things that "shouldn't be possible" happen on a regular basis, aren't you.
[Sora's going to take that as a good sign all the same.]
Yeah...that's how things back home were. It seemed pretty cut and paste but then it turned out that the entire fight we were involved in was actually a war that had been going on for a really long time.
And so you've become responsible, in some part, for the fate of all existence - as you know it, at least. You'll pardon me if I still have some trouble taking that part at your word.
[A little sardonic, but not openly hostile. There is the faintest promise of answers in what Sora tells him, and he is - disastrously, he thinks - still drawn to that.]
No, it's alright. It's not exactly something that most people would believe. And a lot of people back home don't even really know what's going on.
[Like his mom. His friends back home. Hell, even people that knew about it all forgot for awhile.]
I'm not really sure. I wasn't a chosen keyblade wielder. The honor wasn't passed down to me by any former wielder. It was suppose to be Riku but..the darkness got him first. And I knew I had to save him and Kairi. I think that's what made the keyblade pick me in the end.
No - I can't imagine trying to tell them. All normal humans, I assume?
[Not to disparage normal humans - okay, maybe a little.]
So you were chosen. For your courageous altruism, of course, despite apparently not having other qualifications... I don't know what's more bizarre, that these kind of thing happens so often, or that against all reason they tend to work out.
[It's a struggle, that's for sure. And then of course there's the whole "Everyone forgot who he was for a good chunk of time" thing which made it even more difficult.]
I..guess. I've never really thought about it like that. I just knew I needed to save my friends and the keyblade was there, I think. I'm not really sure how to explain it.

Sora can't help but let out a weak laugh, a sheepish sound.]
You could definitely say that.
ohshit I just realised my tag came out messed up T_T
I've known my share of the sort. Sometimes it's almost enough to convince you that there is some greater plan at play after all.
No worries!

My apologies for the delay; Disney ate me
